Swipe Files

Anita F. wrote in to tell us how attending our 2004 Bootcamp "fired her up" and inspired her to get started…

"I absorbed a tremendous amount of info from Bootcamp. It was the single best thing I have done for myself in years. I was sure that when I got back home, I’d be zipping through the rest of my program and lining up clients in short order. Oh, baby, I was fired up and inspired to write! It was like someone had switched on the other 90% of my brain. After 44 years, I’d finally found my niche. I had the talent for copywriting!"

Daniel D. wants to know, "Just how good is the Secrets of Writing for the Fundraising Market program?" And he has a couple of questions about it…

"While I am doing the program, I obviously have access to someone who can answer my questions and help me with my problems. But once the program is complete, what happens if I run into problems or have additional questions? Who do I turn to for help? And the 30-day money-back guarantee – does it start from the day I receive the program or from the day you ship it to me?"

– Daniel D.

Daniel, "Secrets of Writing for the Fundraising Market," is an excellent program. Some of the top copywriters in the field – people like Mal Warwick and Jerry Huntsinger – walk you step by step through the entire process of creating a winning package. Plus, we designed the program to make it very easy for you to break into the fundraising market. To put it simply, all the tools you need to become a fundraising copywriter are here.

It’s very likely that most of the questions you come up will be answered by the time you finish the program. But even after you’ve finished the program, you will always have access to our member services department. We’ll answer any and all questions that you may have. As for the 30-day money-back guarantee, it’s the same with all our programs – it starts from the time you receive it.

And here’s an important reminder triggered by this email from Eric L.…

"Boy, you were right about Agora Web promos – it’s a swipe file mecca. I’ve been swiping at least one per day. Any other sites out there that you know of that send out daily Web promos like these?"

– Eric L.

Eric, I’m glad my suggestion helped. I hadn’t thought about swipe files in some time, but they are definitely a great way to build a whole library of ideas to use in future promotions. Not to mention that every promotion you put in your file represents a potential client. In other words, a broad swipe file with promotions from many different companies also means a nice thick Rolodex of contacts and potential clients.

And, yes, I do know of some other websites that are spilling over with great copy for your swipe file. But before I tell you about them, don’t forget…

There’s something else you should be doing with the material in your swipe file. As an aspiring copywriter, you should be reading at least one successful direct-mail promotion every week. In fact, if each one that you read has the potential to be a ground-breaking promotion, like the kind we review in Monthly Copywriting Genius each month, all the better. Everyone knows the old saying, "Practice makes perfect" – right? Well, practicing with the best will get you to perfect even quicker. If you haven’t had a chance to check out Monthly Copywriting Genius, you should.

Now, back to your question…

Eric, the Internet is full of good copy to put in your swipe file. But, you don’t need to look any further than AWAI to get started. Every promotion on our website, www.awai.com, and every piece of mail we send to you is "swipe-worthy." Study them all to learn how copy works. Also, check out www.early-to-rise.com and www.boardroom.com.

Thanks to one and all. Keep those emails coming!
