Quick Tip:
Present a Professional Image with Your Email
If you’re a typical freelance copywriter, you’ll use email more than any other form of communication. Here are four tips to make sure you present yourself as professionally online as you do in person.
- Do NOT use those little happy face symbols known as emoticons – :) or :-), for example – in any of your business emails.
- Do NOT use background colors or patterns. They not only project an amateurish image, they also take time to load. And they come across as email attachments. Many business clients avoid opening email with attachments unless they are sure who sent them and what the attachments are.
- For the same reasons, avoid using animated figures as part of your signature file.
- Use your signature file only to promote your business and provide your complete contact information. (And make sure you include that complete signature file with every email.) Never use your signature file to express political beliefs.
