How One AWAI Member Used His Copywriting Skills to Get Elected to Public Office

Recently AWAIer Lynne Schlumpf told us how she used her copywriting skills to save her family thousands of dollars in auto repairs.

Today, Phil Pavick shares how he used his new skills to help achieve his dreams of entering local politics.

Here’s the email Phil sent me:

Subject: Woohoo!

Katie,

Boy, I’ve been busy. I decided to pursue my hobby of politics and run for County Commissioner.

Using what I’ve learned so far in the Accelerated Program, I wrote and designed a direct mail piece for my campaign.

The mailing was pretty simple … it included a one-page letter and a pre-addressed, stamped postcard asking for contact info, boxes to check indicating the recipient's level of interest in my campaign and the opportunity for them to pledge their support, request one or more yard signs, donate money, or request a personal meeting.

Also, since they always seem to find a home on filing cabinets, in pencil jars and under wobbly table legs, I threw in a Pavick for Commissioner bizcard, with all my contact info on one side and my community service resume on the other.

Over a two week period there was a 28% response … resulting in committed supporters, yard signs going out, donation money coming in … and a win in the Primary Elections!

Thanks again!

Phil Pavick

I’d like you to take a minute today and think about how the persuasion skills you’re learning can help you achieve your goals. Maybe it’s helping your son or daughter raise money for their school … or getting your first client … selling some of that “junk” in your garage … or even landing a free stay at a hotel. Send me a quick note at kyeakle@awaionline.com. I’d love to hear about it.

Whatever your goal, chances are you can find a way to use your copywriting skills to get there faster. And once you figure out how, don’t wait. Take action right away!

Sincerely,

Katie Yeakle
