The 3-Ms Secret To Launch Your Copywriting Career, Fast

In a minute, I'm going to tell you about the "3-Ms Secret" I discovered, that helped me launch my full-time freelance copywriting business in 3 months and 3 days.

First a story …

When I was young, I had a dark grey cat named Ninja. Ninja spent every day indoors, and most days you'd find Ninja staring out the sliding glass back door, out past the back porch, past our back yard, and into the field behind us that must have had hundreds and hundreds of mice ready to be pounced on.

If I'd have guessed, I'd have thought Ninja's biggest dream would be to dart out that door, run out into the field, and pounce and play and frolic all day.

Then Ninja got out. I think one of us must have left that back door open just a little too long, and the cat slipped through unnoticed.

Well, it took us about an hour to realize what had happened, as nobody had seen the cat slip out. So we went looking. We didn't have to look very far though, because hiding under that porch was Ninja, the "scaredy cat."

Given the opportunity of a lifetime, Ninja couldn't get 10 feet from the safety of the house.

There are a lot of people who are "scaredy cats," too.

I know, because I was one of them. I've known since 2005 that I wanted to be a freelance copywriter. Yet instead of going out and living that dream — the door was open all along — I clung to the safety of a full-time job.

Even though my opportunity was there at any time, I just couldn't venture out and play.

Well, last year I decided to stop being a scaredy cat.

I had wanted to go to AWAI's FastTrack To Copywriting Success Bootcamp And Job Fair for years. Though I never got up the guts to do it — to plunk down that investment in my future, my career, my dreams.

Until last year, when I said "enough is enough" and even though I had no plan of when I'd launch my full-time freelance copywriting career, I made the investment anyway.

Well, within 3 months and 3 days of returning home, I quit my job and started living The Writer's Life. I began enjoying the perks of a schedule I control, amazing financial opportunities, and the ability to pack up and move across the country and bring all my clients and income with me.

And, I don't believe it would have happened nearly as fast — if at all — without going to AWAI's Bootcamp.

Because of something I call Bootcamp's "3-Ms Secret."

These are the three factors Bootcamp puts to work in you when you attend, that are the major reasons behind the success of so many attendees. (Once you quit being a scaredy cat for long enough to say "Yes," they seem to keep away "scaredy cat" syndrome after that.)

  • Momentum. Here's the way I looked at it — and the way those who experience the most success from Bootcamp seem to look at it, too. When you invest in Bootcamp, you have an incredible opportunity. You have the opportunity to learn a lot, then at the Job Fair, to get gigs to pay back your investment — all while you're still there. I made it a point to pay back my investment ASAP with gigs I got because of Bootcamp … I did that, then those gigs snowballed into a full-time freelance copywriting career.
  • Motivation. There's nothing that gives you incredible motivation like being surrounded by people who share your dream … And it comes from everyone: from those who've just caught the bug, to those who are living it to the max. From the speakers, to your fellow attendees, to the staff … Everyone at Bootcamp will help motivate you so you finally feel, "I can do it, and now's the time!"
  • Mastery. Being in the room with, asking questions of, and connecting with the absolute masters of our craft is priceless. Personally, when I attended last year there were a few little tips that I picked up that have been key to most of my success since going freelance full-time … tips that made an impression since I was hearing them straight from the masters. Plus, I even had the benefit of the personal interactions. You can approach and have long conversations with many of the masters — last year I spent 30 minutes at Job Fair chatting up Clayton Makepeace, joking with and learning from him all about copywriting.

You can't really understand Bootcamp's 3-Ms Secret — and put it to work in your life — if you stay a scaredy cat forever.

First, you have to stand up and finally say, "Now's my time," and make the commitment to yourself and your dreams. Then you have to attend, and let the Momentum, Motivation, and Mastery you get from Bootcamp go to work in your life.

I don't know how fast you can launch your freelance copywriting career by investing in yourself and attending AWAI's Bootcamp. Though for me, 3 months and 3 days after returning home was far quicker than expected.

And, it happened because I quit being a scaredy cat, invested in myself, and let the 3-Ms Secret go to work for me.

  2. Thank you so much for this. I *am* a scaredy cat and I need to just take a deep breath and do this. I am grateful for the inspiration.
