AWAI Writing Challenge:
Tell Me About Your “Defining Moment”

Many AWAI members I talk to can trace their decision to become a copywriter back to one "defining moment."

Can you remember what it was for you? Maybe it was a negative situation – missing your daughter's soccer game (again) because you had to work late. Or getting "written up" by the boss for being two minutes late.

Perhaps yours was a positive catalyst – a friend complimenting you on your writing style, or a spouse encouraging you to finally pursue your dreams.

Tell me about your "defining moment". What was the moment when you made a conscious decision to pursue The Writer's Life with everything you had? Describe your circumstances leading up to it, and the "moment of clarity" or (negatively) "the straw that broke the camel's back"!

Send your 1,000 word (or less) essay to me at with "My defining moment" in the subject line. IMPORTANT: Send your entry as a Word doc and include your name on the attached document itself, not just in the email (Entries without names on the document will be disqualified.)

One winner will be selected from all entries received. If it's you, you'll receive a $100 American Express gift card and have your essay published on the AWAI website.

All entrants will be recognized and will be sent a special gift for participating.

Deadline: Sunday, September 26, 2010

Look for the winning entry in the September 30th issue of Inside AWAI.
