What Are You Doing Here?
I've been "online" for quite a few years now. I can't even remember when we first went online with AWAI. And it was late 2004 early 2005 when I took my supplement company online.
And I work with lots of online copy and web material right now.
A few years ago, I wrote an entire website about a project I was doing. It got traffic from all over the world.
But this year, I decided to go to our web intensive in Austin, Texas.
And two people actually said to me, "What are you doing here?"
Now, I've heard that before – usually when I was someplace people thought I shouldn't be.
But here, people were saying, "What are you doing here? You're a well-known copywriter with a lot of clients. What did you come here for?"
Well, the answer is simple.
It's all about skills, and helping your clients.
Now, if you've been writing copy for a long time, you've probably done a lot of work for online use.
But, you rarely get to look at good web work from A to Z – like from autoresponders to emails to marketing landing pages … you almost always wind up concentrating on one or two aspects.
However, if you want to give real value to your clients, it's good to be prepared to offer them assistance from every aspect of their marketing efforts.
From content of web pages, to promotional copy, to autoresponders – they're all part of the package in optimizing what your clients are doing.
And, of course, the more successful your clients are, the more successful you will be. Believe me, your clients WANT to give you more and more money.
But if, and only if, you are helping them make more and more money.
So I decided to take a break and do something for my clients and myself, and broaden my knowledge of web writing.
And that's the answer to "What are you doing here?"
If you're writing, and your success is directly related to the success of your clients, then you can ALWAYS learn a little more about what's going on and what's working where.
In fact, I think we were in the first hour when I pulled out one of my current projects (to fix an email someone else had written) and started making notes about what was wrong and what needed to be done with it.
