A Commodity More Valuable than Money …

I’d just finished shoveling our driveway of snow and ice when I sat down at my computer and got an important email from Katie Yeakle.

Normally I save the shoveling for a couple of high school students we hire for the job. But the weather promised to get much colder, and I knew the ice would be dangerous.

I don’t like shoveling snow. And ice? It can be a real pain. Literally. But I didn’t mind doing the work this time. Once I’d finished, I knew it was time and effort well-spent. I’d gained peace of mind from my efforts.

Your greatest investments are never financial …

Time and effort well-spent. That’s what I’m going to talk to you about today.

In her email, Katie asked me to write to you about the 2014 AWAI FastTrack to Copywriting Success Bootcamp and Job Fair.

It’s tempting when talking about Bootcamp to tell you what a valuable financial investment it is. But I feel the financial investment is only a tiny part of what you should be looking at when deciding if you should sign up.

Now don’t get me wrong. I fully understand how important it is to look at your financial return on investment on something like Bootcamp. It’s not cheap. Having grown up in a household where we weren’t always sure there’d be enough money for the next meal, I’m still very careful about money.

But, over the years, I’ve also found that finances are usually the least important consideration when making a crucial decision about my career. I bet you’ve had similar experiences.

You can always earn more money.

But time? You can never earn back wasted time.

So, the question you should ask yourself is this …

“Is Bootcamp a good investment of my time?”

When you come to Bootcamp next year, you’re investing three and half days of your life – maybe as much as six days with transportation factored in – learning from the top copywriters working today.

You’ll learn the latest secrets and strategies these copywriters use to build and sustain their 6- and 7-figure careers. Your copywriting success depends upon knowing these latest secrets.

But, if you look at our industry’s most successful copywriters, you’ll see a common thread. They’ve not only built their successes on the latest trends … like video sales letters … they’ve also relied heavily on the foundations laid down by the all-time great Master Copywriters like Eugene Schwartz, David Ogilvy, Mark Ford, and others.

So, when you come to Bootcamp next year, you’ll also learn these “old-timey” secrets and strategies that today’s most successful copywriters have depended upon for many, many years. They might not label them as such, but listen carefully. These classic secrets and strategies will shine through in their presentations.

So much to learn and so much to gain – even in the lobbies and hallways …

But the time you spend at Bootcamp won’t be spent just sitting in presentations. You’ll spend a lot of time getting to know many of the presenters. Year after year, the presenters are very generous with their time – personally answering questions about their presentations, chatting individually with attendees, and sharing tidbits of advice freely.

They’re giving you the gift of their time. And I know they look at the time they’ve dedicated preparing for Bootcamp, giving their presentations, and especially talking to the attendees as time well-spent. I know I do. Truth be told, as much as I still learn every time I return to Bootcamp after eight years, my favorite part is talking to members like you.

A special investment of two hours …

Time well-spent? I’m sure you’ll find the two hours of your life you spend at the Job Fair extremely valuable. With little effort you can walk away from Job Fair with spec assignments tucked under your arm. These specs could launch your brand-new copywriting career. Or, if you’ve been working this gig for a while, Job Fair may kick you up to a brand-new, more successful level.

And, since we’re talking about time, consider this: You’ll be sharing your time with other AWAI members who’ve made the same commitment to succeed you have. The deep personal and professional relationships made at Bootcamp amaze me every year.

These aren’t simply friendships. Throughout the year these relationships can provide you support, guidance, and encouragement. One of the top reasons members return to Bootcamp year after year is precisely to renew old friendships and establish new ones. A small amount of time spent and a huge return on that investment.

Speaking of time, the best time is right now …

I’ve pretty much ignored the whole question of the financial investment you’ll be making when you attend the 2014 AWAI FastTrack to Copywriting Success Bootcamp and Job Fair. But if you’re serious about investing your time effectively in your copywriting career, Bootcamp can be the best financial investment you’ll ever make.

And right now is the perfect time to do it, for two reasons …

First, you’re giving yourself some time to save and plan for the trip to Delray Beach. And second, Katie’s asked me to alert you to AWAI’s Bootcamp Early Bird Special.

I don’t have time to go into the details right here, except to say that you can sign up right now for Bootcamp at a deep discount. Katie can tell you the details much better herself. So click here to learn how you can make the best investment of your time you could possibly hope for.

And, when you do come to Bootcamp in 2014, please be sure to grab me by the arm and say “hi.” I’d love to hear about you and your career and answer any questions you might have.

I’ll look for you then. Until we meet at Bootcamp, keep reading … and keep writing.
