This B2B Writer Takes the Show on the Road

For AWAI member Shawn Dady, the flexibility and freedom from a typical nine-to-five work schedule are the biggest perks of the writer’s life

Working from home … or on the road … helps her stay involved in her son’s acting career. They travel regularly between Tennessee and Los Angeles, and she keeps busy all the while.

Over the last couple of years, she’s had a variety of clients, including many in her chosen niche of B2B; she specializes in writing about software.

“I have written articles for RagTag Research Geeks, promoted many small businesses in Tennessee via email marketing, and have designed and built WordPress websites for several different companies. I wrote most of the copy on those websites as well,” says Shawn. “Having been a Network Administrator for several years for medium- to enterprise-level companies, I now work as a software copywriter in the lead gen space.”

She recently landed a great gig writing B2B articles for eCommerce Insiders, an online publishing company that caters to those who provide services to online retailers. It was a connection she made at AWAI’s 2013 Bootcamp that helped her land the job. There she met a fellow copywriter. They kept in touch over time through social media, and when that writer was hired full-time by eCommerce Insiders, she brought Shawn on board as a freelancer.

“It feels fantastic!” says Shawn. “I’m in the process of writing articles right now.”

Of course, this ambitious B2B writer is still looking to the future. Says Shawn:

“Ultimately I would like to write copy for major software publishers like Citrix, IBM, Apple, WordPress, Intuit, Adobe and others. These are the clients I will be approaching in the future. Bring it on.”

Great work, Shawn. Keep at it.

  1. B2B writing is the niche I want to pursue, I think.

I am working on part 2 of the accelerated program right now, and working on the revision of my restaurant letter. I have a great deal to learn still.

I looked at Shawn Dady's website and was thoroughly impressed.

I am a very matter-of-fact type person. I wonder if my nature and personality is a good fit for b2b copywriting.

As I go through the program, I am trying to decide which niche will be the best fit.

  2. I dream of working from the cockpit of a sailboat, while sitting on the beach or while traveling by train. I definitely want an occupation that is portable.
I believe copywriting will fit the bill nicely.
It's good to read about someone who is doing what I want to do.
