How a Simple Fax Led to the Info-Marketing Guru
It all started with a fax. (Remember those?)
I was working 70-80 hours a week in my family’s insurance agency, struggling to grow the business, when my dad tossed a fax on my desk.
“Maybe this can help.”
It was from an information marketer, promising to show me how to make more money and take more time off.
That sure sounded good. But it got even better.
The fax was the first step on a journey that led to Dan Kennedy and the world of direct-response marketing.
Soon, I was devouring everything from Dan I could get my hands on: his books, all five of his monthly newsletters, his teleseminars, and live events.
Heck, I’ve even been to the racetrack to meet his horses and watch him race at Northfield Park in Cleveland. In the winter. (Yes, they race outside in the winter. In Cleveland — crazy!)
But back to marketing …
From Dan, I learned about knowing your market, letting data drive your marketing decisions, and most of all, the power of world-class copywriting.
I implemented what I learned and started getting results.
Almost overnight, my business went from surviving to thriving. I eventually sold that business, and put my marketing knowledge to work for other business owners.
It was around this time that I discovered AWAI. Because of Dan, I knew the huge value of being a well-trained copywriter and the power it gives you to create your dream business and live the life you choose, wherever you choose.
My own journey has led me to spending several weeks a year on Little Cayman, diving and taking underwater photos. And earning a great income from copywriting while I’m there.
I’ve been able to work with owners of traditional businesses and information marketers writing direct-response copy and content. I’m able to help other businesses thrive, while enjoying my own professional journey.
It’s a journey I never could have taken without Dan Kennedy’s help.

At a recent marketing conference, the name most mentioned from the stage as the authority on marketing was … Dan Kennedy.
Walking around the exhibit hall, booth after booth was filled with successful entrepreneurs who learned from … Dan Kennedy.
At my mastermind meeting a few days later, when a marketing challenge was brought up, the solution was found by asking, “What would Dan Kennedy recommend?”
If it seems like Dan’s influence is everywhere, it’s not your imagination! In fact, the entire information marketing industry owes him a huge debt.
Not only did he coin the term “info-marketing,” his guidance has helped hundreds of people build multimillion-dollar information marketing businesses.
I don’t know if anyone has ever officially given him the title, but I call him the godfather of information marketing.
Without a doubt, he’s the one person who understands info-marketers and their needs better than anyone else.
At the last AWAI Bootcamp, I had the chance to talk to Dan and give him a heartfelt thank you for all he’s taught me. The foundation I received from him has proven to be solid as media and marketing tactics come and go.
I don’t know how much longer he will be actively teaching, coaching, and copywriting. He’s dropped a few hints that he’s going to scale back in the near future.
If not for the horses, he probably would have retired years ago. (He often says he works for oats and vet bills.) If you get the chance to tap into his vast knowledge, jump at it!
I can’t imagine what my life would have been like without the opportunities Dan and AWAI have opened for me. Because the life I have now is amazing!
And to think it all started with a one-page fax.
