“Divine Intervention” Helps AWAI Member Land Her First Client

You never know where your next client might come from. As Eileen Reynolds discovered recently, you should always be keeping an eye out for opportunity.

Currently, she’s gearing up to work on assignments for her first client in the B2B niche. Here’s how they connected:

“I was with a few friends from church and we were having a chat about hopes and dreams. I revealed my dream of being a freelance copywriter. One of my friends chimed in saying, ‘You have to reach out to ‘Mary,’ her longtime friend who is the principal at a very successful marketing agency. As it turns out I had met this person back in April at a women’s event where I gave a presentation, so in a sense she knew me to some degree.

“I followed the up with the warm email method of Ed Gandia (learned in Virtual Business Building Intensive). The lead was ‘hot’ more than ‘warm’ so she responded quickly and we scheduled a call. I could not have dreamed up a better contact or starting point. I am feeling incredibly grateful.”

The meeting with the client went well also. And by focusing on her relevant experience, Eileen quickly made clear she was the right freelancer for the job.

She can’t reveal much because she’s bound by a non-disclosure agreement. But she can say the work involves B2B copywriting and B2B content. And it’s just the first step to a new, fulfilling career.

“My goal is to be a six-figure copywriter within one year. I am a very determined individual, so I am certain I’ll get there. My sales training will be invaluable as I work to build a business from scratch,” said Eileen.

“I want a flexible schedule so I can live a balanced life. In the past, in my sales career I worked an insane number of hours, which lead to burn out. I love hard work but I also appreciate down time and having a nice quality of life activities. This first client marks the first step on the journey. I’m excited to watch it all unfold.”
