  • A PLUS, PLUS, PLUS for you!
Plus #1: Save $100 on Rebecca’s “secret weapon” … now through tomorrow at midnight!

And just what is Rebecca’s secret weapon? It’s her “go-to” resource for all things Web-copy related … Nick Usborne’s Copywriting 2.0: Your Complete Guide to Writing Web Copy That Converts.

In the program, Nick breaks down successful landing pages, information pages, subscription pages, etc., so you know the difference between them, and know exactly how to write each one.

He shows you how to write promotion emails, acknowledgement and follow-up emails, customer services emails, e-newsletters, and blog entries. All of it!

“Think of it like having Nick waiting on your shelf to help you, any time you need him,” says Rebecca.

Plus #2: Order Nick’s program before tomorrow at midnight and get access to his exclusive 4-part, hands-on training series too. You’ll get actual writing experience with the four most common projects you’ll tackle as an online copywriter, including the lucrative home page!

Before each session, you’ll get all the details for the exercise. Then, using the information provided, you’ll write the Web copy … just as you would for a client.

Next, you’ll attend a live training session where Nick will walk you through his own personal system for approaching that specific type of project. He’ll even show you HIS copy so you can learn exactly how to improve your own.

Plus #3: You’ll also get access to a special webinar Nick held earlier this year: Four Strategies for Increasing the Money You Make From Every Project You Do.

  • $100 savings, live training, and insider strategies for making the most money from every client you work with …

  • Your fellow AWAIers’ reaction to this new opportunity: “I’ve been looking for something like this!” That’s what Barb Hume says she’s been hearing from the over 200 AWAI members who have scooped this up in the last 3 days.

  • A master copywriter’s reaction to this new opportunity: “A knowledgeable, competent, diligent research person, able to access online and offline resources and pull together the ‘raw materials stack,’ is a busy, successful copywriter’s ultimate secret weapon. There is plenty of work for freelance researchers – in fact, my own experience indicates there’s a shortage of these people.” – Dan Kennedy

And Dan’s not the only Master copywriter we’ve heard from about this way for you to earn “back door” copywriting income without writing. Michael Masterson, Jen Stevens, Carline Anglade-Cole, Jay White, Paul Hollingshead, Don Mahoney, and Mike Palmer have commented on the tremendous value in this opportunity too.

  • Your grant writing skills needed – fast! Here’s a chance to use Grant Writing Success: Opening the Door to Grant Writing Opportunities immediately. Toni Rockis, the author of this new program that we’ve been telling you about, contacted me this week. A client needs her help securing a grant, but Toni is just too busy … so she’s passing the job along to us.

This is exactly why Toni created the program … There just aren’t enough good grant writers out there.

    Here are the details:

  • Help a devastated community, and help launch your grant writing career. The client is Moss Point Visionary Circle, a non-profit, grassroots organization based in Moss Point, Mississippi. On August 29, 2005, the town was flooded and wiped out by Hurricane Katrina. Since then, they’ve been going through the difficult process of revitalizing their economy and rebuilding their community “One Person, One Project, One Penny at a Time.”

We’ve told you about the $500 billion in grants given away by federal and state agencies and foundations last year. Through the Promise Neighborhoods Program, the U.S. Department of Education will be awarding up to 20 planning grants of around $500,000 each.

Moss Point Visionary Circle desperately needs one of those $500,000 planning grants, and they’ve asked AWAI to help. You can read all the details about the grant here, including how to apply and who to contact at Moss Point Visionary Circle.

But don’t wait to act. The grant was just posted on May 5, and the deadline for the Letter of Intent is May 21. Full proposals are due on June 25.

One word of caution: According to Toni, this is one of the more complex grants that the federal government has offered. As she put it, “It’s not one that a complete novice would want to tackle.” So having prior grant writing experience will be beneficial if you want to help Moss Point write their proposal.

  • Job Opportunities
Bed, Bath & Beyond and are looking for copywriters who can write online content.
(They’ve come to the right place!)

Details about these and more opportunities for copywriters and graphic designers here.

  • ATTN B2B copywriters living in Toronto: Steve Slaunwhite asked me to pass this along to you. The director of a B2B copywriting agency is looking to fill a full-time STAFF (not freelance) position. Requirement: You have to live in Toronto.

If you’re part of Steve’s program, he’s posted all the details on the forum.

  • Why online sites lose sales. According to the March 2010 Direct Marketing News, a survey of 1,000 consumers by the E-tailing Group and Products Reviews asked “Why do consumers decide against buying products after online research?” The answers:

Poor product content, such as missing specifications and poor descriptions: 72%
Lack of user-generated customer reviews: 49%
    Lack of expert reviews: 33%
Limited rich media surrounding the product: 30%
    No live chat support: 16%

Clearly, the biggest single thing online retailing sites can do to prevent lost sales is produce better product content, including better descriptions.

Enter YOU! These folks need you!!

And, as Nick Usborne explained during Tuesday’s free teleconference, every website is a potential client. A lot of them are written by amateurs, and aren’t generating the results they should.

If you missed Nick’s free call, you can listen to the playback here.

  • Pop Quiz! During Nick’s call (see above!), he discussed specializing in online copywriting as a career and why now is the best time to break into this vastly growing market.

Our question for you: What was Nick’s first paid copywriting gig?

The first three readers to send in the correct answer will receive a $50 gift certificate to the AWAI e-bookstore.

Send your answer to me at with “Nick’s pop quiz” in the subject line. IMPORTANT: Include your first and last name along with your answer. (Entries without both first and last names will be disqualified.)

Reminder: Until tomorrow at midnight, you can get Nick’s Copywriting 2.0 and save $100! Plus, get his LIVE, 4-part training series and a special teleconference with Nick absolutely FREE.

  • “The best book ever written on how to write,” according to Carl Sandburg, is If You Want to Write: A Book About Art, Independence and Spirit by Brenda Ueland.

It’s not about copywriting or marketing, but rather a zesty, life-affirming guidebook on creativity that has inspired thousands to take up the pen or keyboard.

Ueland worked as a staff writer for Liberty Magazine and as a freelance columnist for The Saturday Evening Post and Ladies Home Journal. She wrote between 5 and 6 million words for those publications, as well as three books.

Besides being a prolific writer, she walked nine miles a day, tried running up a mountain when she was in her 80s, set an international swimming record (for over-80-year-olds), and was knighted by the King of Norway.

I just heard about it and have ordered a copy from Amazon. (I’ll let you know if I agree with Carl!) Here’s an easy link:

  • A big “thank you” to Dan Kennedy for last weekend’s Business of Copywriting Academy. Dan over-delivered on every promise he made … and then some. He wasn’t kidding about long days … 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. … but he used every minute to the fullest … giving the group his very best stuff … answering every question imaginable … and showing them how to use the same tools and techniques that have made him a million-dollar copywriter.

Chris Allsop, one of the attendees, told me, “As soon as I got home, I was sorting out papers and books from the Academy, when I found Dan’s letter, which was sent to us after we enrolled. In it, he gave a guarantee that the Academy would be life changing for our business.

“Actually, it will be life changing. Period. Dan delivered everything he promised, and more. It was a weekend that exceeded my expectations so much, it’s hard to put in words.”

Kellie Craft said: “Dan opened my eyes and filled in many blanks. I am now able to move forward with confidence!”

And Michael Cooley asked me to pass this message along to Dan: “Thanks for showing me that the skills I’ve developed in other careers can be successfully used in building my copywriting business.”

  • It wasn’t ALL work at Dan’s Academy … In addition to being a million-dollar copywriter, Dan is a passionate and accomplished harness race driver. He owns more than 20 racehorses, and races regularly at his hometown track.

He took us all to the track with him Saturday after the Academy ended, gave us a tour of his stable, and then hung out with us for a fun night at the races.

Here’s Dan and Mindy Tyson-McHorse giving a treat to one of Dan’s horses.

As Executive Director of AWAI, Katie Yeakle has been helping people live the writer’s life since 1997.

“AWAI is built on a big promise … that we can teach you a new skill that can lead to increased income … independence from the 9-to-5 grind … and the freedom to live and work where you choose.

“All of us at AWAI stand behind that promise. In fact, that’s how we measure our success – by how many people we help reinvent their lives.

“Follow our proven advice, and you can be among the many successes we’re so proud of.”
