Copywriters, internet researchers, social media pros, graphic designers, email marketing specialists -- all wanted … meet AWAI's latest Wall of Fame member … what AWAI 2.0 means for you … David Ogilvy in a classic video on why "your opportunities as a copywriter are colossal" … and more
JUST RELEASED TODAY – How to Write Online Video Scripts for B2B Companies
Here's B2B pro Pete Savage to tell you more …
"We're standing at the forefront of something HUGE! That's why I'm thrilled to be introducing this program to my fellow B2B copywriters right now. The market for online video in B2B is about to explode, and it's not just me who is saying so. In fact, the business research arm of Forbes.com reported in December that …
"83% of senior business executives are watching more online video today than they were a year ago, and 65% say they've visited a vendor's website after watching a work-related video."
What does this mean for B2B copywriters? Just that the video medium is ushering in an unprecedented opportunity to "own" a corner of an emerging niche before everyone jumps on it!
Pete is VERY excited about this. He continues:
"Copywriters often twist in the wind, struggling to answer important questions like Where should I focus? … What should my niche be? … Should I pick a specialty? …
"Usually, these are not easy questions to answer. But every once in a while, the answers just appear due to one reason … an explosive trend in the marketplace that creates an immediate window of opportunity for writers who are paying attention.
"One of these explosions is happening right now. Writing online video scripts for B2B companies is an untapped niche, with no established go-to writers leading the pack. Those who get in early can leap to the top of the market."
In How to Write Online Video Scripts for B2B Companies, Pete shows you how to write online video scripts, of course. But he doesn't stop there. He knows the biggest question on every copywriter's mind, no matter what the niche, is "How do I get clients?"
This is something Pete wanted to absolutely make sure he covered in detail in the program. In fact, there's an entire section of actionable advice that B2B copywriters can put to use right away, including:
- FIVE different ways you can approach clients about writing video scripts for them
- 10 laser-focused actions you can take in the next 30 days to land your first few PAID video scriptwriting projects
- Pete's personal 7-step "seed planting" campaign that you can use to groom potential clients
Pete also devotes an entire section to how to deal with clients who are new to video. "This is an important section because many clients may want video, but they may not understand the process and will look to you to educate them," says Pete. He covers exactly what copywriters need to know (and say) to make everything go smoothly from start to finish.
Two more good reasons to order your copy of How to Write Online Video Scripts for B2B Companies now:
- You can get started today for just $149 (a $50 savings!).
- You'll get even more strategies from Pete in an exclusive webinar he'll be hosting soon. He will share his latest discoveries, as well as what he's been up to lately. His promise: You'll get even more success strategies to put to use in this hot and exploding niche.

2011 is starting off with a bang for these AWAI members …
Rich's proudest copywriting moment so far? "Simple … being told by Michael Masterson that I am writing great stuff."
And when did he realize he was living the copywriter's life? "3/24/2010, when I was told I have MS. My first reaction was to write copy for the power chair industry. 30 days later, I landed a long-term contract with America's #1 power chair distributor."
Rich asked me to pass this message along to you –
"NEVER stop believing. Don't let anyone tell you you cannot do this. I am proof you can."
You can see Rich's full Wall of Fame profile here.
Internet Researcher Barry Brillinger is on a roll too. Barry writes:
"In October, you forwarded me an email from your colleague, Richard Armstrong, requesting the services of an Internet Research Specialist.
"I replied. He said that he had already hired, but he'd keep me in reserve. It wasn't until the end of December 2010 that he was able to use my services.
"Upon delivery of the results for his promo (ahead of schedule), his words were: 'Fabulous, Fabulous, Fabulous!'
"It can't get much better than that!
"Thank you for leading me to Richard Armstrong. I have a solid client, a heavyweight in the direct-mail industry, and Richard is a joy to work with.
"My advice to beginners like myself: Hang in, be persistent, and success will surely come."
"Thanks again to you, Katie, and Sandy Ferguson, for offering us Secrets of Becoming an Internet Research Specialist: How to Surf the Web for Freedom and Profit. My first commission covered the cost, too!"
And Beth Falls and Monique Poche are ringing in the new year with brand-new money-making websites.
Beth's site, www.meandmomonline.com, focuses on health and wellness for girls and their moms.
"I've had a lot of ideas over the years. The hard part has been translating them into action," Beth told us. "Nick Usborne's How to Write Money-Making Websites actually allowed me to turn ideas I've had for years into a real live launched website – WOO HOO."
Monique's site, www.youronlinecareercenter.com, offers job seekers a one-stop resource for all their needs.
Says Monique: "Nick's How to Write Money-Making Websites has been a lot of fun. My only regret is that I didn't start it immediately! It took me about a year from buying the program to actually implement the site, but I have learned so much about the Web, SEO, writing Web content, and affiliate programs. I love to learn new things, so this was the perfect program for me. I love the fact that I get to help people in their career searches, and I get to learn new things along the way."
REMINDER: Nick is offering a seven-week training series, beginning January 17th, for everyone who owns his hugely popular How to Write Your Own Money-Making Websites program. In addition to the proven, step-by-step instruction Nick gives in the program, he'll walk you through the complete process in these live (and lively!) webinars. There'll be a real-time Q&A at the end of each call. And you'll be joined by a supportive group of your peers … all working toward the same objective.
And this just in from Denise McGill of McGill Copywriting …
"Thank you so much for sending the updated version of Secrets of Writing for the Catalog Market. Much appreciated! I have gone on since completing the original program to write for several catalogs, including Collections, Etc, Hodges Badge, Sturbridge Yankee Workshop, and others … and love it!"
Want to join Denise in writing for catalogs (online and print)? Pick up our newly revamped Secrets of Writing for the Catalog Market. We started with the authoritative classic by the master, Herschell Gordon Lewis. Then we added Jay White's inside scoop on writing catalog copy for the Web. Next, we topped it off with SEO expert Heather Lloyd-Martin's take on how search engine optimization pertains to catalog copywriting.
And we added these two bonuses:
AWAI's Catalog Niche List. This list of potential clients is going to be a go-to resource for you as you become ready to start taking on assignments.
Have specific interests or passions? This list of 335 catalogers, divided into 16 niches, makes it easy to zero in on the industries you're already jazzed about …
Top Catalogers With Multiple Brands. Many of the industry's top catalogers put out a number of different titles, and this list will point you to some of the biggest and most successful multi-brand companies.
One of the great things about this resource is that, by landing an assignment with one of these biggies, you could end up getting a lot more work writing for one or more of their other brands.
You got an e-reader for Christmas. Now what? Anne Messitte, the publisher of Vintage/Anchor, a division of Random House, has the answer: "The eBook Insider."
It's a free e-book, available at Amazon.com, BN.com, and other e-book retailers. Messitte says, "With so many people receiving e-readers for Christmas, one of the things they're going to want to do is go looking for the books they want to read."
The review at Amazon calls it "the ultimate readers' resource for choosing great books." Find out what some of your favorite authors are reading and recommending, and preview excerpts from the best books of the year.
What's on your e-reader (or nightstand)? I'm reading Malcolm Gladwell's new essay collection, What the Dog Saw: And Other Adventures. I've only read the first essay so far. It's called "The Pitchman," and is about the legendary Morris and Popeil families (which brought the world Veg-O-Matic, Chop-O-Matic, Ronco Rotisserie, and so much more). It's a very fun read for us direct marketers.
Gladwell says in the preface, "Growing up I never wanted to be a writer. I wanted to be a lawyer, and then in my last year of college, I decided I wanted to be in advertising. I applied to 18 advertising agencies in Toronto and received 18 rejection letters, which I taped in a row on my wall. I thought about graduate school, but my grades weren't quite good enough. I applied for a fellowship to go somewhere exotic for a year and was rejected. Writing was the thing I ended up doing by default, for the simple reason that it took me forever to realize that writing could be a job. Jobs were things that were serious and daunting. Writing was fun."
Sounds like our kind of guy!
And if you haven't yet picked up (or downloaded) your copy of Michael Masterson's latest, The Pledge: Your Master Plan for an Abundant Life , I urge you to do it. I've read it twice already.
The most important thing you can do to improve your copywriting … Advice from Master Copywriter Will Newman
As master instructor for the Circle of Success, there's one question I'm asked many times. "What's the most important thing I can do to improve my copywriting?"
Of course, there's no "one" thing. Everything you're learning from AWAI works together to make you a stronger, more successful copywriter. But there's one thing that, if you fail to do it, you'll never be a good copywriter … let alone a great one. And that thing is to write.
If you want to succeed in this business, you have to write, write, and write some more – hopefully with a good review system to leapfrog your efforts. But what to write, especially if you don't currently have a client or a spec assignment?
Here's my suggestion. And I suggest you do this regularly even if you have a ton of clients and more work than you know what to do with. Find a local cause you believe in, something you're passionate about. Write for them for free. Give them your services. Donate your time and efforts.
If, for example, you want to reduce the impact of homelessness in your town, find a shelter and ask them how you can help them with your writing skills. Does your church need someone to write a newsletter? Volunteer to do it. But don't simply copy everything that's always been done. Bring in all your copywriting training to make it the best darn newsletter your church has ever seen.
Is there a political issue you're excited, angry, or dismayed about? Write a letter to the editor of your newspaper. Don't simply dash it off, however. As an AWAI-trained copywriter, you're becoming skilled at writing persuasive copy. Use those skills.
What's in it for you? Practice, of course. Every time you write, you improve your skills. You're one step, 10 steps, 100 steps closer to becoming an A-level copywriter. And maybe someone at the newspaper or in the political power machine or at the local United Way will notice you and offer you a paying job.
Or maybe not. It doesn't matter. You're not just getting practice and getting better. You're making the world around you a better place. When you do that, your copywriting becomes far more than just a way to make money. Copywriting becomes who you are and why you love this gig.
More job opportunities, more strategies for improving your writing and building your writing business, more member success stories … we're overflowing with great stuff for you this year and can't wait to share it all.
2011 is bringing a big change to AWAI …
In the past year our industry has transformed into something new and even greater. The demand for freelance copywriters, researchers, designers, web writers, b2b copywriters and more has exploded, while at the same time, many AWAI members made the decision to get serious about living the writer's life and take control of their lives once and for all.
So after many discussions about how we can help your achieve your dreams, and at the same time help the marketers and business owners who so desperately need you, Rebecca and I have come up with a solution …
Starting next week we'll kick off what we're jokingly calling in the office: AWAI 2.0.
And our goal is simple: To get you focused on where you want to be, and then get you there as quickly and efficiently as possible.
We've got lots of surprises in store for you, but the first big change you'll see is the way we communicate with you via email.
With so many jobs, opportunities, and changes taking place, we want to make sure you're getting the information you need to succeed. So on Tuesday we'll launch our new daily publication, The Writer's Life.
As far as the number of emails you get goes, don't worry – it won't be going up. In fact, it may go down a bit. But what's inside your daily email is where you'll find the biggest change …
More job opportunities, more strategies for improving your writing and building your writing businesses, more member success stories that you can follow, more tools for landing clients and making more money from your writing …
If this is your year, then we've got you covered.
So keep your eyes open for the first issue on Tuesday, and let's make 2011 the year you achieve every goal you set for yourself.
In the meantime, let's wrap up this final issue of Inside AWAI with a message from one of the legends of our business. It's as relevant today as it was the day it was recorded …
"Ladies and gentlemen, I envy you. Your timing is perfect. You've come into the business of direct response copywriting at the right moment in history."
As Ogilvy says toward the end of the video clip, for direct-response copywriters, "Your opportunities are colossal."
You're in the right place, at the right time. May 2011 be your best year yet.
