As a relative newcomer to copywriting in 2009, AWAI member Pam Foster made a big splash in the pet industry by launching PetCopywriter.com, quickly becoming the “go-to” writer for many companies who sell pet- and veterinary-related products and services. In 2017, she sold PetCopywriter.com and has since become a Certified SEO copywriter, blogger, and web content consultant for multi-page sites and online promotions (emails and landing pages). She joined the AWAI team full-time in November 2015 as our director of Copywriting Training.

AWAI member Mindy McHorse is a professional freelance copywriter who, through her work with Barefoot Writer, is dedicated to helping new and experienced writers find freedom fulfillment as well-paid freelance copywriters. She also writes for clients in the biz-opp, alternative medicine, and self-help world. Mindy was the original Reality Blogger for the Wealthy Web Writer and chronicled her real-life journey of going from $24K to six figures in just one year as a freelance writer.

A long-time AWAI member, ED GANDIA is a successful B2B copywriter, business-building coach and strategist who helps freelance writers and copywriters earn more in less time doing work they love for better-paying clients. Ed spent 12 years in corporate sales before making the switch to freelance writing. He found that he could apply what he knew from his previous career to his freelance copywriting business, enabling him to build a six-figure solo practice in 27 months.

As an AWAI member, Heather Robson quit her day job in 2001 to become a freelance copywriter specializing in email and content marketing strategies and user experience (UX) copywriting. She is also managing editor of Wealthy Web Writer, where she gets to work closely with web writers from all walks of life. Throughout her career she’s worked with a variety of clients like AWAI, American Lantern Press, and MarketingProfs, writing and learning alongside many well-known copywriters such as Mark Everett Johnson, Don Mahoney, and Nick Usborne.

AWAI advisory board member Ilise Benun is the founder of Marketing-Mentor.com, the go-to online resource for creative professionals who want better projects with bigger budgets, through which she offers business coaching to small groups and 1:1. She is also a national speaker and author of seven books, including The Creative Professional’s Guide to Money. Since 2008, Ilise has hosted the Marketing Mentor podcast, and her newest project is her role as business coach for the Savannah College of Art and Design.

AWAI member Jen Adams specializes in writing long-form sales letters and email copy for clients in the financial, health, personal development, and lifestyle niches. She’s a founding partner of the Titanides and has served as managing editor of the Professional Writers’ Alliance since 2017.

Katie Yeakle has spent more than 25 years in the world of direct marketing and publishing in the roles of copy editor, editorial coordinator, product manager, fulfillment supervisor, marketing manager, and publisher. Recognizing the industry-wide need for talented copywriters who can deliver copy that sells, she helped establish the American Writers & Artists Institute (AWAI) with co-founders Paul Hollingshead and Don Mahoney in 1997. Today, as executive director, Katie oversees AWAI’s 100+ programs designed to help people turn their passions into careers.
