  1. Things that fill us and things that drain us are important to identify, hopefully in advance. Too much unrecognized "drain" usually leads to disaster, or at least a painful embarrassment. Instead of trying in vain to meet needs of others while running near empty, a pause with something that fills and restores is called for.

  2. For well over a year, I've needed to retreat from the world for a week or so to reset my brain so this cognitive disconnect can go away. I've started spending more and more time driving around town just so I can be alone; my partner gets concerned, so I sit watching TV and talking with him rather than in the other room where it's quieter. Now I see how counter-productive this really is.
